Senior & Pain Care

Helping Senior Pets Thrive with Gentle, Tailored Support
APPOINTMENT

Senior pets have different needs – and we’re here to meet them with compassion, comfort, and care. At Rouse Hill Family Vets, we support older pets and those living with chronic pain through tailored plans that focus on mobility, wellbeing, and living their best (retired) life.

Senior Pet Wellness Exams

Catch issues early. Support their spark. Keep them feeling like themselves.

Our senior checks are anything but quick once-overs. We take the time to truly understand your pet’s mobility, behaviour, and comfort — because ageing gracefully isn’t just for humans.

Senior consults include:

  • A full physical exam
  • Arthritis scoring and mobility checks
  • Pain scoring and cognitive decline screening
  • Tailored diet, supplement, and preventative care recommendations

🧪 We recommend annual blood and urine testing and blood pressure monitoring. These tests incur an additional fee and are not included in the consult cost.

💡 These tests help us detect early signs of organ dysfunction, urinary tract disease, and hypertension—common but often silent conditions in senior pets. By tracking these results over time, we may catch trends or changes earlier, giving your pet the best chance at timely treatment and improved outcomes.

Senior Wellness Check Fee: $109.90

Senior & Pain Care FAQs

How do I know if my senior pet is in pain?
Pain isn’t always obvious. Look for reduced mobility, sleeping more, reluctance to jump, or changes in behaviour. Our team can help assess and score your pet’s pain levels.

Can acupuncture or laser therapy replace medication?
These treatments often complement medication. For some pets, they may reduce the need for drugs or help delay starting them.

Is rehab only for surgery recovery?
No! Rehab helps older pets build strength, improve balance, and feel more confident moving around. It’s great for arthritis and chronic pain.

Do I need a consult to start palliative care?
Yes. We’ll assess your pet’s current health and develop a comfort-focused plan that suits their needs and your family’s wishes.

Why do you recommend annual blood, urine, and blood pressure testing in senior pets?
These diagnostics help us detect early changes in organ function, urinary health, and blood pressure—conditions that are common in aging pets and often show no outward signs until they’re advanced. Tracking these values over time allows us to catch trends earlier and take action before symptoms appear.
