PEMF Therapy

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy is a non-drug option for pain relief and healing. It uses electromagnetic energy to reduce pain and inflammation, and it can even penetrate bone. This therapy can be applied with a handheld loop or mat, making it convenient for home use between professional sessions. At our clinic, we have two Respond PEMF beds that are used during rehabilitation and acupuncture appointments.

PEMF therapy can also assist with behavioral issues like anxiety and dementia, making it a great option for pets who cannot take long-term medications.

What is PEMF Therapy and How Does It Work?

PEMF uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to jumpstart and accelerate normal cellular processes. Cells contain electrically charged particles called ions that regulate all cellular functions. When the body is stressed by illness, environmental factors, or age, the cellular membranes responsible for managing ion transport can become compromised.

When the electromagnetic field from the PEMF bed or loop penetrates the body, it creates a magnetic field in motion. This field positively influences the ions and cellular membrane potential, stimulating them into action. The result is improved cellular communication and circulation, reduced inflammation and pain, and faster healing.

There are no side effects, and PEMF therapy can often reduce or even replace the need for pharmaceuticals in treating long-term, degenerative conditions.

What Conditions Can PEMF Help With?

PEMF therapy is beneficial for any condition causing swelling and pain, including:

  • Wounds and soft tissue injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Tendon and ligament tears
  • Fractured bones
  • Joint conditions
  • Neurologic injuries
  • Stiffness
  • Hip dysplasia

Benefits of PEMF Therapy

  • Pain relief
  • Faster healing
  • Increased mobility
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Healing of non-union bone fractures
  • Improved performance for sport and working dogs

What to Expect During Treatment

PEMF therapy has the ability to pass through fur, skin, bandages, and even bone. Our Respond PEMF beds can penetrate the entire body of a pet lying on the bed, reaching deep into joints and muscles to stimulate circulation.

Each session lasts 30 minutes and is completely painless. Many pets will relax or even fall asleep during treatment. Typically, noticeable improvements occur within two weeks, and in many cases, you may see an immediate difference in how your pet rises, walks, or runs.
